A. Traditional and Modern Communication Technology
A. Traditional and Modern Communication Technology
The development of communication technologies can be grouped into traditional and modern communication technology.
The characteristics of traditional communications technologies, namely:
- direct
- Uses symbols with locally agreed.
- From its shape, tend to have large size
The characteristics of modern communication technologies, namely:
- Indirect
- Has a wide range or even global.
- From the shape, size is more modest.
Traditional communication devices are still commonly used among : kentongan, drum, bells.
The reason the use of traditional communication tools are:
- Can be done by anyone,
- Low cost, and
- Easy to make
Modern technology has always been dependent on electrical energy (fuel, solar, wind etc.). This will be a problem, especially in remote areas (villages slopes of the volcano, small islands).

B. Communication Systems
Communication can be done directly or indirectly. Examples of direct communication is face to face talks. The talks are usually carried out indirectly by reason of distance, then we need the media or devices such as telephone and say we do not direct communication.
Communication system is a process of formation, delivery, receipt, message processing that occurs in a person and or between two or more people to convey a particular purpose.
Communication comes from the Latin: comunicare that means to bring together or share it with. According to Simons (1976), communication is always associated with the presence of one message or information sent by a particular source to the receiver via a particular medium, or so-called communication in the context and specific situation to achieve the goal. Communication is a process when someone is moving the trigger to change the behavior of others.

There are 5 components in the interplay of communication, namely:
a. communicator is sending a message,
b. message that is sent to receiver of information,
c. channel or media communique,
d. communicant of the recipient,
e. the impact of purpose, change or effect.
Five of the above components, we can simplify again into: the message sender, message content, and the recipient.
Communication process will basically take place starting from the sender's idea, translated into a symbol that implies, and sent through a medium to the recipient, after which the receiver gives feedback. The process can be described as shown in the following scheme.

C. How to Communicate
The following are things that are related to ways to communicate:
1) Listening
2) Statement
3) Openness
4) Sensitivity
5) Feedback
D. Obstacles or constraints in communication
Things that could be obstacles or barriers in communication include:
1) Interest
2) Emotion
3) Hostilities
4) Charism
5) The experience of the past

E. Working Principle of Communication
Figur 2 The working principle of communication
Communication mechanism is a process that occurs from sending messages to feedback.
The working principle of communication equipment through 3 major stages, such as the scheme above :

F. Types of Communication
Communication can be divided into three types:
1. Oral communication (voice);
1. Oral communication (voice);
a) Advantages
• Feedback can be received directly.
• Listeners can ask if it is not clear.
• Messages can be expressed

b) Disadvantages
• Time a lot.
• Often does not bring results

2. Written communication (symbol)
a) Advantages
• Can be stored, recorded.
• Can be prepared with care.
• Uniform.
• Wide range.
• The cost is relatively inexpensive.

b) Disadvantages
- News writing spend a lot of paper.
- News expressed poorly, if the sender of the message is not an effective writer.
- The feedback is not received immediately.
